The Hancock County Board of DD offers a Recreation Program to promote socialization and allow for individuals receiving supports to be an active part of their community.
To be eligible for the Recreation Program, an individual shall:
- Be eighteen (18) years of age or older;
- Be a resident of Hancock County;
- Receive SSA Services from the Hancock County Board of DD; and
- Receive a Level One Waiver with minimal support or receive no waiver services at all.

Blanchard Valley Center offers self-advocacy programs as well. One of these programs is Hancock County Speaks Out. This organization was formed to assist individuals with understanding their strengths, needs, personal goals, rights and responsibilities. The club empowers self-advocates to speak out for themselves by making informed choices about their own lives. We meet the 2nd Thursday of each month from 4:30 PM – 5:15 PM in the Blanchard Valley Center Admin. Conference Room.
Hancock County Speaks Out members have the opportunity to further their self-advocacy skills be attending Project STIR (Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility). Project STIR is a training program for self-advocates designed to provide individuals with the tools to advocate for themselves, mobilize others in advocacy and gain leadership experience.
Aktion Club is an organization sponsored by Kiwanis International where its members get to develop initiative, leadership skills and to serve their communities. With a mission to change the world one child at a time, the Aktion Club is doing its part to develop competent, capable, caring leader through the vehicle of service.
